Have you ever seen the film called ‘The Lion King?’

It is Dino’s favourite film. He loves the colours of the scenery and the amazing array of animals.

Lion says jambo!

That is how you say hello in Kenya!

Lion is very excited as he has just met lots of his friends and family in Kenya.

It was when we went to a National Park to meet some friends… Dino says it was spectacular. How many of the animals can you spot from the Lion King film?

Lion is going to introduce you to his friends with their name in Swahili (that is the language that is spoken in Kenya).

We met a waterbuck who was sheltering from the hot sun. The Swahili name is ‘ kuru ‘

We also saw lot of monkeys. These were getting the insects out of the elephant dung! For once, Dino didn’t feel hungry and strangely did not want to go and eat with him!

We also saw some big baboons…Dino laughed at their funny bottoms! There name is ‘ nyani ‘ in Swahili.

Hiding in the grass were lots of antelopes. This is a Grants Gazelle or ‘ swala granti’

Lion got very scared when he heard some giant footprints… But it was only Elmer the Elephant! Their swahili name is Ndovo

They were flicking dust over themselves to keep them cool and to keep the insects away!
Dino loved the shape of their ears and how they flapped them!

We also saw an animal with a long neck….can you guess what it is….

20120306-144649.jpg

Nope…not a giraffe… This antelope wants to be a giraffe so has grown a long neck. It is called a Gerenuk! Or ‘ swala twiga ‘

Here is the giraffe. It’s name in Swahili is Twiga. It’s neck is so tall!

We also saw lots of hornbills like Zazu out of the Lion King.

Lying in the shade were a couple of warthogs.

And walking through the long grass were some blue legged ostriches.

At the end of the day Lion got very excited as he saw his family sitting under the trees. There was a whole pride of lions. Lion started roaring at them and they roared back. They are called Simba in Swahili.
